Hi, my name is Lieve.
I found my artistic voice through an unexpected path. While working in law, I turned to drawing during long meetings and phone calls, developing my signature technique using ballpoint pen on lined paper.
From an early age, I was captivated by the strong, heroic women in my father’s comic book collection. Yet, while these characters embodied strength, their ‘perfect’ bodies didn’t reflect the reality of my own body an that of the women around me. As a young woman in the age of social media, I have personaly experienced fluctuations in self-acceptance and body image. I am challenged by the idea that people can be depicted in strong, heroic poses whilst not falling into the trap of only showing standard, male-gaze inspired body types. Inspired by this challenge, my art embraces self-acceptance and body positivity, whilst still holding on to the idea of the classic Super Hero.
Through my art, I want to tell my own Feminist Belief:
Self-love is the ultimate Feminist Action.
